A unique blending of Somatics, Therapeutic Yoga, Breath Re-education and Ayurveda
coupled with knowledge and techniques from many years as an Occupational Therapist
“The best part is bringing Somatic Yoga Therapy to help other people reduce their pain, increase joint motion, and teach them to listen to their bodies in a different way and to be able to heal themselves through this amazing blend of Yoga and Somatics!”
My Story
Pam has been an Occupational Therapist since 1991. She studied and became certified in NDT, or Neuro Developmental Treatment early in her career. As she moved into other areas of rehab, she took trainings in Myofascial Release, Hand Therapy, Craniosacral Therapy, and Manual Lymph Drainage. She kept looking for “that thing.” While she learned a lot with these courses and they brought more understanding and she still uses these, none of them were “it” for her. These techniques didn’t teach people how to help themselves. It was another technique to do “to” them.
Pam has been a physically active person all my life – played sports in high school, began running in college and into adulthood, played volleyball for years, hiked, biked, you name it. Entering her 40’s, she started having difficulty doing some of these things, which were a large part of her life. Pains and stiffness wouldn’t go away, she was losing motion in her neck from a previous accident, and was having joint pain so bad she sometimes didn’t WANT to do anything. Then came trigger thumbs, where her thumbs would lock and to move them was excruciating at times. (If you ever wondered if you used your thumbs a lot, try having trigger thumbs!) She felt like she was literally becoming a different person and like she had no control over it. Many clients in her OT job were going through surgery after surgery, and not really feeling better. She tried yoga, did power/hot yoga for a while, and it felt good! However, she was still hurting myself and didn’t know how to continue to do active things WITHOUT hurting herself. She then found Sandy Eimers at Balance Yoga Lounge and her program that is the starting point for becoming a Yoga Therapist, and had a therapeutic focus, and thought that it was worth looking into. She completed her 200 hour Therapeutic Yoga program in 2016, and loved it but still wasn’t sure where I was headed from there.
After looking at many programs to continue her training in Therapeutic Yoga, she found Yoga North in Duluth, MN. It felt like the perfect fit, with their program focusing on all the elements of Therapeutic Yoga, with an emphasis in the neuromuscular retraining of Somatics. After the first weekend in St. Paul (the first of 9) she felt like her world had turned upside down and at the same time, like she had found THAT THING, finally. Her work. Her dharma. She completed her Yoga Therapy certification in 2020, and has been doing this work as well as teaching it since that time.
Where am I now?
I’m passionate about spreading the Somatic Yoga Therapy methodology and love teaching others the tools of Somatics, Breath Re-Education, Therapeutic Yoga, and Ayurveda!
My days are spent mostly doing private, one on one sessions with clients, as that is what this work is really about - helping each individual person find better balance in all parts of their lives, not just physical. My space is in a small business park that feels like a village or a park, with lots of flowers, wildlife, and quiet.
I also do mentoring with other professionals and teach courses in Somatics and will be adding other courses as well!
This work empowers people to find more balance in their lives so that they can live their life to the fullest! I have always felt that life should be full of adventure……. whatever that means for you. My mission is to help you find ways to live your best, most adventurous, happiest life.
